After completing some graduate coursework at the University of Stanford, and marrying his wife, Shirley, Cady became dissatisfied with academia. He left to work as an announcer and news broadcaster at various California radio stations. Cady put his career on hold in 1943, however, to fight for the Unite States Army Air Corps during World War II. In his movie career, Cady worked with a number of prominent directors. He appeared in a non-speaking role in Hitchcock’s Rear Window. He also appeared in The Asphalt Jungle and When World’s Collide. He is most famous for his role of storekeeper Sam Drucker in American television series including Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies.
