Born to a family that has been involved in banking for decades, it was Botin’s great grandfather who founded Banco Santander, another high-ranking bank in the country. Botin was 52 when he got the chance to take over the lead over Banco Santander as president in 1986. However, he was not the only one to preside over the bank as his grandfather, father, and brother Emilio have all served as its presidents for some time.
