While serving time he became the prison disc jockey and Greene was hired at AM radio station WOL/1450 after he was released. He hosted the program Rapping with Peter Greene and then the television program Petey Greene’s Washington, which won two Emmy Awards. He was invited to the White House by President Jimmy Carter and famously “stole a spoon”. Greene had Howard Stern as a guest on his show in 1981 which became one of Stern’s first TV appearances. His autobiography Laugh If You Like, Ain’t a Damn Thing Funny was published in 2003. Ralph Greene passed away on January 10, 1984 at 52 years old from liver cancer.
